Getting
your Car Ready to Sell
Amusing your Car
This will make it easy
for the potential buyer to call and verify the estimate. You
might also want to make a deal with the mechanic to the effect
that if the new owner brings the car in for repairs-or even
if you do it-he'll give a discount on the repairs. The benefits
of the evaluation form are:
What Car Dealers Won't Tell You
-
It gives you a third-party evaluation that becomes a strong
selling tool.
-
If
the repairs are minimal, your honesty in presenting the
sheet to the buyer will help build his or her trust in
you.
-
You
can use the mechanic's estimate in your negotiation as
a means of dropping the price without appearing to have
caved in on your asking price.
Of
course, if the mechanic tells you that it's going to cost
you more to fiY the car than the car is worth, you can burn
the evaluation sheet and let the car speak for itself. Remember,
even a car that looks to be just one left turn from a junkyard
will be of interest to someone.
Note: Below we have included a form for the Professional Mechanic's
Evaluation. On the following page you'll find a "Personal
Inventory Evaluation" form. This form was designed to
let you look at your car on paper and to give you an opportunity
to weigh its assets against its liabilities.
